“Pain is temporary, quitting is forever.”

Charging big waves gets Richard Kidd frothing.  The youngster from Ballito is all about power surfing.  Although he has a formidable air game, deep inside heaving barrels is indeed his happy place.  He is an incredibly grounded young man who is extremely focused on what he wants to achieve in his surfing and in life.  Having only competed in a handful of events he does however have his eyes firmly set on being part of the SA Olympic team in 2020 and realises it will only be achieved through hard work and dedication. So when he isn’t surfing, Richard is training hard to keep himself in peak physical condition in order to give himself the best possible chance in upcoming competitions.

Currently he has competed in 1 ISA World Junior Games in Oceanside, California where he gained invaluable experience surfing against the best surfers in the world in his division.  A couple 5th place finishes in 4 SA Junior Championships and another 5th place finish in his lone Senior SA Championship.  His best result in several PST events in South Africa is a 3rd in a Billabong Junior event.  His unwavering self belief propels the perpetually smiling Kidd forward in his pursuit of winning SA Champs, achieving a top 100 on the QS by 2018 and qualifying for the CT by 2020.

“Jason Ribbink is an amazing and very generous man that has looked after me and has achieved so much in life yet is so humble.”

“Tammy Lee smith is the most caring, level headed person I have ever met and has helped me and taught me so much about life and surfing.”

These two people inspire me to better myself and push me to achieve what I want to achieve.
